Secure collection: school, after-school and extracurricular violence
School should be a place of learning, trust and emancipation. When violence occurs there, whether bullying, physical or psychological violence, discrimination or sexual assault, committed by supervising adults or by pupils, victims and their families too often find themselves powerless in the face of doubt and cumbersome procedures.
The associations #MeTooEcole and WeBlame offer you a neutral, confidential and secure space in which to submit your testimony. To record the facts, break the isolation, identify repeat offending and turn scattered accounts into admissible collective evidence. Your identity is never made public.
Encrypted account data • 100% free • No information is passed on to the school or to the rectorat (regional education authority).
Why this initiative is essential
The many forms of violence
Sexual violence, school bullying, repeated taunting, physical abuse, psychological violence, public humiliation or discriminatory remarks: many forms of harm are suffered in school and after-school settings (the supervised time and activities around the school day, such as the canteen, before- and after-school care and children’s leisure centres). According to the DEPP (the statistics department of the French Ministry of Education), nearly one in two lower secondary school pupils (aged 11 to 15) report having faced repeated violence, and the Ciivise (France’s independent commission on incest and sexual violence against children) points out that 40% of institutional sexual violence occurs in a school setting.
The weight of isolation and discouragement
Faced with this violence, whether it happens every day or has been buried for years, individual efforts too often end in people giving up. Fear of reprisals, fear of not being believed, shame or minimisation by the institution trap families and witnesses in profound loneliness.
Impunity fuelled by the lack of collective memory
Whether it is bullying between pupils or repeated misconduct by adults in positions of authority (teachers, school supervisors, activity leaders), perpetrators too often benefit from the lack of cross-referencing from one class to the next, from one year to the next or from one school to the next.
The need for an independent third party
Reporting only within the school exposes you to the institution’s self-protective reflexes and to administrative delays. WeBlame provides an airtight, independent citizen safe space in which to record the facts, free from any pressure, ensuring that every voice contributes to protecting everyone.
From an isolated report to shared evidence
Submit your account in complete confidentiality
Pupil, parent, former pupil or education professional: you describe the facts (nature of the violence, dates, school or after-school setting, establishment, people involved). Your account is kept safe and remains confidential: it is neither made public nor passed on without your consent.
Confidential cross-referencing to detect repeat offending
Our technology cross-references, in a sealed environment, the details you have provided (name of the person implicated, social media accounts, places, vehicle registration number). As soon as separate testimonies implicate the same person, the match is established.
Supported action and absolute consent
You remain fully in control of the process. If a match is found, our team contacts you, and you choose whether you wish to be put in touch with the other people concerned. When submitting your testimony, you also indicate whether you would like legal or psychological support: our team refers you to the team at #MeTooEcole.
Ethics, transparency and data security
#MeTooEcole’s mission
Born of the urgent need to protect children and support families, the association speaks up for victims, calls on the public authorities to demand rigorous protocols and supports people as they rebuild their lives.
WeBlame’s mission
WeBlame acts as a neutral technological and legal trusted third party. The association guarantees sovereignty, the security of submissions and the processing of matches.
The ethical golden rule
- By default: the #MeTooEcole association only has access to anonymised macro-statistical data (volumes by French département and by type of setting: school, after-school, sport) to feed the independent Observatory of School Violence.
- Access to personal details with explicit consent: your contact details are only passed on to the #MeTooEcole listening and support unit with your explicit consent, obtained on a case-by-case basis.
What you are probably wondering
Yes. The platform is open to anyone who is a victim or a witness.
In the event of immediate danger or serious distress in France, do not wait: call 119 (children at risk), 3018 (school bullying) or 17 (police emergency).
It is essential. As many recent cases have shown, institutional violence often unfolds over many years. The testimony of a former pupil, now an adult, can corroborate a recent report and stop an abuser who is still in contact with minors from reoffending.
No. WeBlame is a citizen organisation that is completely independent of the Éducation nationale (France’s state education system). No steps are taken with any school or institution unless you deliberately choose to, or within the legal framework of a judicial investigation.
You are notified confidentially by our team. No action is taken without your explicit and informed consent to being put in touch with others or to building a joint case.
Don’t carry this silence alone any longer.
Every account helps to protect a child.
